Newsletter October | A call for dialogue

Dear reader,

We’re excited to share some of the latest developments at Treevive, where we continue to implement our commitment to protect and restore.

In these turbulent times for the VCM an important aspect of restoring trust and confidence is rigorous standards and implementing and monitoring high-quality criteria. Together with our project partners and Technical Assistance providers, that’s what we’ve been doing from the start. Sometimes local circumstances dictate that alternative solutions better fit the context. It’s important to not always rigidly stick to a set of criteria but also engage in meaningful dialogues with local stakeholders and scientists to make the best possible choices for the project. And subsequently, get into a meaningful conversation with investors and offtakers to explain why these choices have been made. We’re grateful to have partners open to such dialogues and urge others to do so as well.

One of these partners is Triodos Regenerative Money Centre (TRMC). Together, we’re pioneering impact-first investments in Nature-based Solutions, bringing attention to the urgent need for patient, risk-tolerant capital in environmental restoration. More private capital is needed for the restoration and conservation of tropical forest landscapes, as this natural capital is still underfunded. The collaboration with TRMC allows us to accelerate our mission of halting deforestation and restoring tropical forests by developing forest carbon projects, crucial for mitigating climate change and halting biodiversity loss.

In this issue, we’re also sharing:

  • Insights from Michel Schuurman at the Carbon Markets Summit in London, where he raised critical questions about the balance between scaling carbon credits and maintaining project integrity.
  • A spotlight on our partnership with Storio Group, who have voluntarily invested in one of our forest carbon projects, and created a video highlighting their commitment to sustainability.

We’re proud to announce that Treevive is now developing 11 projects, collectively restoring and conserving nearly half a million hectares of tropical forest landscapes. This is another step forward in our mission to conserve, restore, and manage two million hectares of tropical forests by 2030. And, we’re growing! Stay tuned in the coming weeks for the introduction of our new investment officer.

We hope you enjoy this edition, and we’re grateful for your support in making a lasting impact on our planet’s future.

Warm regards,

Liesbeth Gort
