Treevive is proud to highlight this milestone for the Conkouati-Douli National Park (CDNP) REDD+ Project in the Republic of Congo. The project, led by Noé, has entered the validation phase under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) Standards.
Located in southwestern Congo on the Gabonese border, this project covers 300,000 hectares. With its mosaic of primary, lowland, and mangrove forests, the park is home to exceptional biodiversity, including gorillas, chimpanzees, and forest elephants, as well as 8 Critically Endangered, 13 Endangered, and 27 Vulnerable species.
Despite its ecological value, the park faces mounting pressures from poaching, illegal logging and mining, and agriculture. To address these threats, the REDD+ project will strengthen forest protection, reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, and create positive impacts for both nature and people.
Key project highlights:
- Climate impact: Preventing Forest loss and reducing carbon emissions.
- Community development: Supporting 31 surrounding communities with infrastructure, alternative livelihoods, and training opportunities.
- Biodiversity conservation: Restoring degraded habitats and securing the future of iconic Central African wildlife.
The project is implemented by Noé, which has managed CDNP since 2021 with a 20-year vision to conserve the park as a sanctuary for wildlife and local communities. Treevive and Form International are supporting the carbon development process.
The validation audit by Ecolance Private Limited is scheduled to take place next week, marking the next step toward full certification.
